"I have looked all over your website and still cannot find the answers I need. Where do I go?" Yes, I must admit that this website is not the end-all for liturgical questions. To satisfy the growing desires of the faithful to know what constitutes "correct" liturgical practice, several books have recently been published.
This book is the second book by Msgr. Elliott concerning
liturgical matters. The first, Ceremonies of the Modern Roman Rite, was meant to be more of a manual for those planning liturgical celebrations. This book addresses more of the other aspects of liturgical worship that were not addressed in Ceremonies.
The book is broken up into chapters addressing topics
such as the liturgy of the word, the liturgy of the
eucharist, gestures, adoration, funerals and other topics.
Each topic in the chapter is written in the form of a
question as much of the topic material comes from a
newspaper column with the same title as the book. Each
answer includes pastoral suggestions and thoughts but
not all include reference to specific legislation. We also
noticed one error concerning the washing of feet on Holy
Thursday. The book states that the Roman Missal says to
wash the feet of twelve men when the Missal doesn't name
a specific number. Apart from this, we found the book
extremely helpful, especially for its pastoral advice
which provides a little more substance than simple
rubrical answers.
