Originally written 24 years ago, this classic study of the
liturgical problems following the Second Vatican Council has been republished and
is just as timely as it was then. Hitchcock disproves the myths of "relevance"
and "spontaneity" showing how these ideas are contrary to true worship and
actually destroy the communal and historical elements necessary to real liturgy.
Hitchcock also surveys some of the problems that have arisen directly from the
new liturgy including a loss of reverence, mystery and beauty. He concludes with
a series of suggestions on how the current liturgical problems may be remedied.
